José Augusto Soares Prado was born on 17 September 1981, in Rio de Janeiro, RJ southeast of Brazil. He completed his Bacharelor degree in Computer Science degree in 2002 and his final project of graduation was a beneficent database software which was donated to Fundação da Criança Renal. He finished his M.Sc. at the Federal University of Paraná degree in November, 2005.

He started working on a trainee programme in CELEPAR (Companhia de Informática do Paraná), followed by a program in the Hong-Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) trainee programme. At the end of this last programme he was hired as a staff member by the HSBC. During his M.Sc. programme he worked on LACTEC (Instituto de Tecnologia para o Desenvolvimento - Paraná) and went twice to evaluate graduation jobs at the Regional Engineering Congress on Scientific Initiation (CRICTE). In 2005, he was hired as a permanent staff member by the R&D division of CELEPAR.

After a year in this company, José Prado received an opportunity to do his Ph.D. at the University of Coimbra, Portugal. During his Ph.D. he worked as a fellow within the European Project BACS (Contract no. FP6-IST-027140) as a researcher. Currently he is a Ph.D. student sponsored by a scholarship from the Portuguese Foundation for Technology and Sciences (SFRH/BD/60954/2009) at the Institute of Systems and Robotics, in the Faculty of Sciences and Technology University of Coimbra.
